We had a good time in Moscow. We saw a lot of historical sites and cultural interests. Here are some highlights:
Red Square took our breath away. It was amazing at night. Shelley got to see Lenin's tomb. She was so excited. He looked like wax. Red Square was closed yesterday and there was a large military presence. They were preparing for a gay rights parade. The Kremlin was also amazing. It is a little mind boggling to think how much things have changed. We can not believe as Americans, we were walking around the Kremlin!
We went to McDonalds and had to use a picture menu to order. A Russian Big Mac tastes better than an Amercian Big Mac.
We went to a military museum that was amazing. There are certain parts of museums that we are not allowed in because we are tourists. The Russian Orthodox churches here are beautiful. They are very colorful.
The subway system was very intimidating. Luckily our guide, Galena, got us through. We all had to band together to physically push our way through. Galena told us a lot of stories about living in Russia during Communism. Her stories are incredible.
We stayed at a hotel that was originally built for the 1980 Moscow Olympics. It was nice to have luke warm clear water. The Russians might have sent the first man and dog to space, but they really need to work on the plumbing.
Last night we went to the Moscow circus. There were leopards, tigers, and bears in the foyer. The acrobats were incredible.
Shelley and I have decided, Russia is a really old country that is going through many changes. The people here are adapting to a new way of life. Shelley and I have one last thought...a quote from Austin Powers: "Yeah Captialism".

did the bears wear funny hats and ride around on little tricycles like they did in the U.S. before the circus got all PC? I bet Russia is pretty cool in that respect....like they don't give a shit what people think about stuff...there's probably no handicapped spots either, right?
ReplyDeleteDid they have Vodka on the menu at McDonalds? If they did, could you get it in a 42oz cup?
ReplyDeleteI would have loved to hear Galena's stories about living in Russia during Communism.
ReplyDeleteDid you get any pictures of the churches? I surprised they are allowed to have churches.
They weren't allowed to have religion during Communist times, but they didn't destroy the churches. Galena told us they used the churches as storage during that time.
